Blake

My boys are safe.

In my head I kept on repeating it to myself.

Just thinking about what could have happened if they hadn’t been on the club’s school bus had my heart racing in fear. They’d had no after school activities scheduled for today which meant if not for the club, they would have been on their usual school bus. A bus that would have been filled with high school kids on their way home.

If those bastards had pushed the unprotected bus off the road or opened fire on it how many of the kids would have died? Her own boys could have died.

What kind of deranged maniac do you have to be to target children?

She was so very thankful she had met Stone and the club. They were keeping her little family safe.

In fact they were keeping everyone’s families safe.

Not once in the years she has been living next door to them had she thought they would become her friends. Become people she liked and admired. Life was strange indeed.

Once the kids were settled down in the entertainment area at the back of the clubhouse Hawk called all the parents into a meeting. He stood in front of the bar looking self-assured and confident, it wasn’t difficult to believe he would take care of the problem threatening them.

“I promise the kids’ safety is a top priority for the club. We won’t hesitate to use force to protect them. I have assigned more brothers to the protection detail until such time as we have the problem taken care of. The school bus suffered no real damage. We’re replacing the windows that need to be replaced and painting over the dings left in the paintwork.” He looked around the room and his eyes met mine. “The bus will run as normal tomorrow. I urge you to allow your kids to use it because it will show them you are confident they are safe.”

DC stood next to him and nodded to let us all know she agreed with him.

“I want to commend Stone and Blake’s boys for their swift action in taking care of the little ones and helping the brothers to navigate a tough situation.”

Stone curved his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close. I sank into him, appreciating his strength as he held me.

The meeting ended soon after and after collecting the boys we went home. Thankfully Stan had the foresight to send Dini up with the SUV when she came to fetch Ghost so we had transport.

Stone followed us home on his bike.

“Can I get a bike for my birthday?” Ridge suddenly asked.

It came out of nowhere.

Not that I should have been surprised, I had seen the way the boys looked at Stone’s bike.

“I don’t know.” I stalled. “I’ll have to do research on the dangers and the laws surrounding motorcycles.”

“Ma!” He said in exasperation. “There are a lot of guys at school who ride.”

“We’ll talk about this later, Ridge.” I said, my tone of voice telling him not to push the issue.
