Here the life cycle needs to be restored. Circular, rhythmic movement patterns that rock, soothe, comfort, and create nests and arms that hold are essential. The round yin shapes can encourage parasympathetic settling, helping clients to relax and feel safe. The round shapes connect and flow. They can help restore broken connections not only in the nervous system but also in life. Simple rocking movements can get clients out of their heads and encourage positive body sensations. Some of these might be reminiscent of early childhood developmental needs such as being held and rocked.

Figure 13-3 . Ciara suffers from a debilitating spinal disorder. At times the spasms and the pain are unbearable and only “bombing” herself out on medication brings relief. If possible, though, she uses Guided Drawing at home on her own to ease her condition. Her first drawing she describes: “No life force, No energy. Nothing to resist with.” Six drawings later, in the same session, after she has restored rhythmic connectedness, she writes: “I surrender. I let the old fall away and become compost for this opening to my own courage and trust and hope and radiance.”
