Chapter 9

Braylon suppressed his frustration while sitting on the picnic mat next to the pond in the greenhouse. Drew and Ellis occupied the spots on either side of Braylon, and they seemed to be enjoying themselves thoroughly, munching on sandwiches and chatting with each other. Braylon didn’t feel left out because every once in a while, Drew and Ellis would inquire about his day or somehow get him to participate in the conversation. His vexation resulted from his own fear and inability to get the important words out of his mouth. Before he left his apartment earlier, his parents and brothers had called and given him words of encouragement, urging him to speak up about his feelings. However, that was easier said than done. Braylon didn’t have low self-esteem, but he was fully aware of his shortcomings. He didn’t have it in him to utter sweet, flowery, and romantic words. In fact, he was a terrible conversationalist. Sooner or later, Drew and Ellis would grow sick and tired of that side of Braylon, just like all the men and women he had dated in the past. He was taken aback when someone bumped lightly against him from the side. It was Ellis, and he was smirking at Braylon.

“Were you fantasizing about something dirty and nasty? Your eyes glazed over, and your lips were parted quite widely. Care to share your thoughts with Drew and me?”

“Just thinking about you and Drew,” Braylon answered immediately, feeling nervous all of a sudden.

Then he became confused when Drew and Ellis silently stared at him for a second or two before the two men abruptly burst out laughing. He was fairly certain that he hadn’t told them anything hilarious.

“Now, I’m curious,” Drew spoke up moments later when he had calmed down a little. “What exactly did you imagine inside your head?”

Braylon was momentarily bewildered. Then he was mortified when he realized how his response to Ellis’s question must have been perceived by the two men.

“I didn’t mean it like that.”

Ellis snickered. “Explain it carefully to Drew and me then.”

“The two of you misunderstood,” Braylon retorted.

“We didn’t,” Drew interjected while chuckling.

“You did,” Braylon insisted. “I had you and Ellis in my mind, but in an innocent way.”

Ellis chortled. “The more you protest, the guiltier you appear to me.”

Braylon began to lose a bit of his composure. “I didn’t lie. I also had my parents and my older brothers in mind—”

“Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!” Drew interrupted. “Stop right there. Some people may find incest hot, and I have nothing against those individuals, but it’s not my cup of tea.”

Braylon was shocked. He didn’t know how the situation had turned into something that bad, but he had to clarify everything to Drew and Ellis.

“No! No incest. Not even close. My parents and older brothers had contacted me earlier before I left the apartment because they knew that I was apprehensive about our date tonight. They wanted to cheer me up so hopefully, I wouldn’t mess up while confessing my feelings for the two of you.
