Twenty minutes later, Hawkins stopped by her room and together they walked down to the main room. A few of the older members were having their coffee. Wren and Wanderer were sitting at a table by themselves, and Rosabel sat down with them while Hawkins went to get them both some coffee.

Rosabel saw the dried tears on Wren’s face and asked her, “Are you okay?”

Wren shook her head. “No, no I’m not. Everything is tumbling down. My whole life has been a hot mess and it’s still coming after me. Do you know what I mean?”

“Yeah baby girl, life is like that sometimes.” Rosabel agreed. “You can either crash and burn or learn to go with the flow.”

“Go with the flow?” Wren shook her head. “Tell me, how do you go with the flow when you find out your mom shot your dad when he was holding you, because he wouldn’t betray his family for her? How do you go with the flow when she then turns her back on her three month old daughter, simply walking away, leaving that baby to whatever the fates decide? I was lucky, a good woman found me and raised me, then 20 some years later, I found out my dad’s family is a cartel, working the east coast and that a man from another cartel has been watching over me for most of my life. That same cartel man murdered Marie, the woman who became my mom and I had to run for my life.”

Rosabel shook her head sadly as she took Wren’s hand and held it in hers.

“Then of all things,” Wren went on. “I meet my father’s family and they plan to finish a war with the cartel. The son of the man who killed Marie comes looking for me for god only knows what reason. Oh and on top of all that, my birth mother came to call and almost killed me and my sister. And if a pack of wolves hadn’t got her, she might have managed to kill us both. Please tell me if you can...How do I go with the flow after learning all that?”

Rosabel looked down into her coffee cup as she contemplated an answer. Lifting her head to look at Wren, she sat staring at her for a moment then she told her quietly, “First, you look back on the things that Marie taught you, then you decide what you want in life and forget the rest. It's really just white noise. You reach down and pull your big girl panties up and you make your stand. You dig your feet into the dirt and you tell these people that this is what’s gonna happen. You decide if you want to stay here with your man, then if you do, you tell them that. Don’t take any of their bullshit or their bullying. You are an adult. I'm sure you are twenty one at least, and it is your life. That means you get to live it, you get to decide your fate.
