Chapter 7

Sylvia

She’d never been a fan of mornings, especially ones that came after a night of embarrassment. Sylvia had no idea how she was supposed to face Logan after she’d aired all of her dirty laundry to him, then cried herself to sleep in his arms. He’d said all the right things in the heat of the moment, but now after a good night’s sleep, she was positive he wouldn’t be able to feel the same way.

How could he now that he knew everything she’d done?

Although she’d woken up before he did, Sylvia stayed in their shared bed, eyes closed, while Logan got up and showered. Part of her wanted to pack up her things and run off while he was behind the closed door. The rational side of her remembered, though, that there was nowhere for her to go, and running away would only make her look more foolish.

She should never have agreed to go on the damn road trip in the first place. If she’d just stayed in Dayton, she never would have felt the need to divulge her greatest shame to a stranger and then soak his shirt with her tears. On the bright side, Sylvia was ready to tell her friends about her past. She no longer felt like she was going to vomit or pass out just thinking about telling them about what happened. She knew she had Logan to thank for that.

Still not ready to hear that he’d changed his mind about her, Sylvia faked being asleep the best she could when Logan re-entered the bedroom, but it obviously wasn’t enough. The bed dipped a little behind her as Logan sat down and placed a hand on her hip.

“I know you’re awake, Sylvia. Stop faking it so we can get this day started. I have an idea I want to run by you.”

Confused, Sylvia opened her eyes and rolled onto her back. She expected an awkward morning after. She expected a moment where he told her he changed his mind. Instead, she was faced with a man who seemed excited about the day before them and some idea he couldn’t wait to tell her about.

“It’s only going to be weird if you make it weird,” he said as soon as she looked over at him.

“I talked myself into believing you were going to change your mind,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Not gonna happen. I told you exactly how I felt about things last night. So many people wronged you. I’m not going to be one of them. You’re not what they’ve labeled you, Sylvia. You’re a smart, funny, amazing, gorgeous woman, and I’m honored that I get to spend time with you.”

Tears started to fill her eyes, but she blinked them away. She was done crying about the situation, even if they were happy tears. Sitting up, she smiled over at Logan, a warmth spreading through her as he returned her smile.
