Iquickly sat up on the sofa after hearing the front door unlock. I didnât even realize that Iâd fallen asleep while watching Netflix. The sound had somewhat startled me since I was out cold.
My heart rate slowed down after Nnaji walked in with a checkered Louis Vuitton duffel bag. âSorryâ¦did I wake you?â he asked.
Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I looked out the living room. The sun hadnât even risen. âWhat time is it?â
âA little after five a.m.â Nnaji dropped the bag in the corner of the room and went to the kitchen to pour a shot of Cognac.
âDo you usually drink this early?â I asked, joining him. I was low-key glad to have him back. For some reason, I felt safe and protected whenever he was around.
âTrust me. Itâs overdue.â
âYou say that like youâve had a long day.â
Nnaji tossed the shot back and poured another. âSomethinâ like thatâ¦â
My eyes lingered on the bloodstains that were on the collar of his dress shirt. âI can see why.â
Nnaji looked down at the stains and frowned. I assumed he hadnât noticed them until now. He went to unbutton his shirt and fumbled a little due to being tipsy.
âHere. Let me help you with that,â I offered.
As I undid each button, I felt his intense gaze on me. If I didnât know any better, Iâd think he was trying to read my thoughts to see if there was a mutual attraction. âDo you stare at all the girls like this?â I asked, purposely avoiding his eyes.
âI havenâtâ¦and I doubt I ever will.â
His answer made my heart skip a beat. Ever so slowly, I looked up into his eyes. Our gazes lingered for several seconds. The liquor obvious gave him a loose tongue. Nnajiâs shyness was slowly melting away, and heâd just confirmed my suspicions. I saw how he looked at me whenever we were in public, but I didnât know the extent of his crushâ¦until now. Nnaji was really choosing.
âNow youâre just making me blushâ¦â
Okay, so maybe I was doing a little choosing myself.
Nnaji towered over me by nearly an entire foot. I had a weakness for tall, chocolate brothers. The mystery that came with him was just a bonus. After pulling off his shirt, I walked over to the trashcan and dropped it inside. Thanks to Gunner, I had a habit of helping niggas cover up their tracks. Iâd even served a year in prison for him in the past. But best believe I would never do that stupid shit again.
âOh, I gotcha somethinâ,â Nnaji said, interrupting my thoughts.
I couldnât help but admire his chiseled body as he walked to the living room. The way the muscles in his back flexed made my pussy tingle. Damn. Why he gotta be so fucking fine?
Grabbing the duffel bag, he unzipped it and pulled out a box for a brand new iPhone 6s. âI know circumstances prevented us from grabbing your old one, so I thought Iâd get you a replacement.â
âWow. Thanks, Nnaji, I really appreciate it.
