Chapter 14

I took her to a local art gallery, and she admired every painting she could see. Her eyes lit up as soon as we entered, and now I can’t pull her away. She has her arm wrapped up in mine, which surprised me at first. Delaney hasn’t let go of me the entire night, and that’s exactly the way I wanted it to be. This is perfect. She’s perfect.

“Are you having a good time?” I ask as champagne is brought around to all the guests.

“It’s perfect, Luka. Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me. I’m glad you decided to come after all.”

“It’s not that I didn’t want to,” she says, taking a drink from her glass.

“I know. I understand, Delaney.”

“I didn’t know how to react to everything that happened.”

“No need to tell me that. Of all people, I understand.”

“Do you?” she moves to stand in front of me and gazes at me. “I have loved you since I was a child, Luka. To know I love someone who could so easily take a life was hard for me. When you shot Romano, I assumed you only wanted me for your personal use.”

“Why would you have thought that? I’ve never given you a reason to think that have I?” Now I’m concerned and confused. I don’t remember ever acting like that toward her, of all people.

“No. But the thought lingered in the back of my mind. I wasn’t sure what you wanted with me,” she admits. I know it took a lot for her to tell me, and I appreciate every word. I reach up with my free hand and caress her cheek. She closes her eyes briefly and leans into my touch before opening her eyes again.

“I wish you wouldn’t think that of me. I want everything with you, Delaney. Everything.”

“Even if it scares you?”

“You don’t scare me,” I tell her.

“Love does. Love scares you because you’re not used to receiving it.”

“I’m not necessarily scared. I just don’t know if I can return the love you give me, Bellissima.”

“You already have.” With that, my heart feels full. I’ve never had these kinds of emotions running through me before. Delaney consumes me. She gives me everything I’ve always wanted and more. How do I not take what she has to offer? Instead of saying anything further, I pull her against me and crash my lips to hers. This time she kisses me back with enthusiasm. Her tongue slides past my lips, and I allow her the time to explore my mouth with hers before I deepen our kiss.

People walk around us, but I don’t pay them any attention. All I can see is her. And how she’s making me hard. I slowly slide my hand down her neck until it clamps around her hip, jerking her body into mine. She moans in my mouth, and I can barely control myself.

“I bet you'd be soaked for me if I were to take you back to the villa.”

“You think so?”

“I think so. And then I will force you to come.
