I flip on the lights of my small studio living area on base and heave a sigh of relief that I cleaned up before we made our time jump. I had no idea how long weâd be gone, so I wanted to make sure everything was neat and tidy.
I didnât realize it wouldnât matter until Amara reminded me that weâd arrive back at precisely the same time we left.
Wrapping my brain around time travel was a feat, one I didnât want to conquer.
Amara's standing in the kitchen, her eyes glued to a picture on my refrigerator. Itâs the only picture I have of my brother. I donât have to explain it to her. She already knows.
âWould you like something to drink?â
She shakes her head. She reminds me, in this instant, of her younger self, small and nervous.
âAmara?â I say her name softly and wait for one second, two, before she turns her head to look at me. âAre you okay?â
And just like that, she closes the distance between us in three quick steps and kisses me. Her hands are on my face, her body is pressed against mine, her tongue slipping into my mouth. She deepens the kiss when the shock of her making the first move, and making it so quickly, washes away.
Iâve missed kissing her more than I ever thought was possible. We fit together in a way I didnât appreciate until I spent years trying to replicate it. Woman after woman came into my life and every single one of them never measured up to the way we melded together. Everything about her makes sense to me. Her mouth, her hands, her body, her heart, her soul.
She whimpers softly when I reach down and pick her up. She wraps her legs around me as I walk her to my bed. The only benefit of a studio is the bed is never too far away. I set her on the mattress, then break apart from our kiss so I can start to undress her. She's quick, though because she has her scrub shirt up and over her head before I can even reach for the hem. My eyes are drawn to her bare breasts, to the beautiful dark brown of her areolas, to her taut nipples I spent so much of my youth loving. She lifts her hips as I slide my fingers under the waistband of her scrub bottoms. I pull them off easily and⦠âWow,â I hear myself whisper as I take in the sight of her naked body. âYouâ¦wow.â Amara has done nothing but get better with age. Her body is beautiful and even though Iâd seen it a hundred times before, seeing her now feels like the first time all over again.
âIs everything okay?â She leans back, propping herself up with her hands on my mattress, then spreads her legs open, revealing her wet center. I can barely feel my legs, let alone my brain, so finding the ability to speak is difficult.
âYes, yes, everything is okay.
