To return to Anna, she commented, ‘If he said, “Can I go out with the lads?” I would say, “All right, but can I go out with my sisters?”

‘He would say, “No!”

‘I would say, “Well, you’re not going then.”

‘He was over the moon and would then say to them, “She’ll not let me go out.”

‘He wouldn’t let me go, so I wouldn’t let him go. His friends would twist their faces. People used to say, “Wherever you see Viv, you see Anna. He never leaves Anna, the two of them are constantly together.”

‘I used to think it was that because maybe he had been sly with me by going with them [Gillian, Julie and others] and telling me lies. When he came out of prison he knew that I had never been with anyone. So I thought, Maybe he thinks I’m going to do back to him what he did to me and this is his insecurity with me.

‘He said to me, when I gave him the ring back on the prison visit, “You’ll love somebody else.”

‘I said, “That’s one thing I’m not going to do, go with somebody just to pay you back for what you’ve done to me. That’s just not my style.”

‘I wouldn’t do that, get a man and think, Well, he’ll be sick for what he’s done to me. So he knew I wouldn’t do that. I think he had this insecurity where he thought I would like to do back to him what he did to me. That’s what I thought, anyway.’
