“Satisfied?” Wilhelmina asked.

“Yes, thank you.” And so he was. More or less. Certainly the food had been satisfactory, consisting mostly of sweet-breads, hard boiled eggs and thin, crispy slivers of cold bacon. His disappointment came from the fact that Wilhelmina continued to wear the damned all-covering duster.

The widow carefully retrieved all the leftover goodies from the blanket where they sat, packed everything back into the hamper and latched the wicker lid closed. She set the hamper aside with a sigh. “Personally, Dexter, I am not at all satisfied.”

He frowned. “Is there something I can get you?”

“Of course there is.” She stood.

Dex jumped to his feet also. “I’m sorry, I ...”

“Shhh.” She placed a finger to her lips—very soft and full lips they were, he noted—to shush him. He shushed.

Wilhelmina Stout, President of the Ki’iwa tribal council, kicked off her shoes—soft, loose-fitting half-boots actually—and pulled the scarf from around her neck, allowing it to drop from her fingers and float gently to earth. She pulled her bonnet off, and her hair spilled sleek and gleaming to her waist. She unbuttoned the duster and with a shrug of her shoulders let it slither from her to fall in a puddle of cream-colored cloth around her feet.

With those few articles missing, the only thing Wilhelmina wore was a smile.

A rather smug smile at that, Dex thought.

And once again his pecker began doing battle with the buttons of his fly.

He thought the girl was pretty when she was dressed? That had been only a hint of the beauty that was concealed beneath the wrappings.
