I’m in the gym hitting the weights at five in the morning when Zac walks in and turns the music down. I usually have it blaring while I work out. Zac had the room soundproofed when he got tired of hearing me working out at odd hours. Some nights, when I was younger, I’d spend all night working out just to expel the built-up energy that hit me every now and then.

“Did your house burn down?” he asks. “Nope,” I reply and continue my reps.

“Then what the fuck are you doing here at this fucking hour?” He tries to portray that it’s shitty I’m here. He’s not mad though—I know he’d never say no to having me here.

“I wanted to use your gym, so I stayed here last night,” I lie.

“Fuck off, you have a better fucking gym in your own house.”

“Yeah, but I was tired after doing your job at your club last night and didn’t feel like driving home.” I put the bar down.

Zac doesn’t say anything, just stares at me, with those creepy know-it-all eyes of his.

“Fine, I stayed because I was worried about you and Alyssa, okay? Are you happy now, fucker? How is she?” My confession turns his creepy look into one of appreciation.

“She’s scared. I had her take two weeks leave from work. We’re staying in until after the holidays. I think the safest place for her right now is here.”

“Good idea. Anything I can do?” I ask.

“Yeah, find me that fucking bitch. Other than that, try not to burn my club down.”

“I’ll do my best to keep the club as the pristine and well-oiled machine you have it.” I salute his back as he retreats to the door. Just before he opens the door, he turns back to me.

“Oh, and Bray?”

“Yeah?”

“Next time you bring Reilly home, you might want to consider that your bedroom walls are not soundproof, like these ones.”

“Oh, I know.” I smirk.

Zac shakes his head. “I won’t protect you from Alyssa if you hurt her friend, Braydon.”

Oh shit, he brought out the full name shit. I’m actually a little scared of how far he’d go to help her castrate me if she asked. He’d probably do it himself, fucker. “I don’t plan on hurting her. I just plan on keeping her,” I tell him.

“Sure, that’s not the same thing. Poor girl, if she’s getting stuck with your crazy fucking ass.”

“What can I say? The girls all want to be with me and the boys all want to be me.” I shrug as I wipe the sweat from my face with the towel.
