Chapter 18
Almost two months after I broke up with Derrick I slowly, but surely, started getting over him. He stopped calling so I guess my refusal to answer his phone calls finally hit him. Summer was ending, and Tia, Ladia, and I threw a small party for Ladia’s birthday. She invited Nick, this guy we all met at the club one night. They had been talking and he’d come over sometimes to see her. Marlon and a couple other guys from work showed up with some bottles. Randy and Sam were there. Even Jamie came. And it was so weird to see him without Derrick.
I sat at the table, breaking down cigars, and rolling up weed. It was my favorite thing to do, and I thought of all the times Derrick and I sat in his car and smoked. I just shook my head and took a few shots, and then I lit the blunt. I took one long pull, opening my mouth slightly and breathing in to let the smoke travel through my nose.
“Ladia! Here,” I said, as I passed her the blunt. She came and sat down at the table with me, taking a hit she said, “Nick was telling me he want you to have a threesome with us.” I was high, but my eyes opened wider than normal.
“What?!” I exclaimed, laughing, “Oh my God, are you serious?”
“Yup, he just told me,” she replied smiling and laughing.
“UM. I don’t know. I probably gotta get drunk as hell for that,” I said, still in shock. I had never done anything like that before. I have kissed a couple girls before, but I was either drunk or having an identity crisis.
“Just think about it,” she said, passing me the blunt.
As the night progressed, I got wasted. Wasted. I was falling and flipping all over the damn place, kissing Sam and Ladia for fun and smacking them on the ass. I was gone. Jamie was sitting in the same swivel chair as Derrick was when he snapped out. And it made me snap out.
“YOUR COUSIN AIN’T SHIT! HOW COULD HE BE…BE SO MEEAANN?” I asked Jamie, hiccupping between words. He just shook his head, “I don’t know fool,” he replied.
“WELL FUCK HIM…HE DIDN’T LOVE ME! WHY DIDN’T HE LOVE ME? I WAS SOOOO GOOOOD TOO HIM! ….I miss him though.” I was switching back and forth from anger to sadness. Then I fell to the floor and started crying.
“Mia get yo ass up and stop crying over that nigga! He ain’t crying over you!” Tia yelled from the kitchen. I frowned up and picked myself up off the floor. Harsh much? I sat down on the couch, and before I knew it, I dozed off.
I woke up to the sound of my name being called. I looked around the room, and everyone was either sleep or had left.
“Mia!” I heard in a faint whisper. I looked up and it was Ladia, motioning for me to come upstairs. I gave her a drunken smile and stood up, stepping over bodies as I walked up the steps.
