CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Noah arrived at the hospital an hour earlier than usual. He hoped he could spend some of that time reading the emails and reports he needed to catch up on without women invading his office sitting on his desk and teasing him with dresses riding up their thighs or enticing him to join them in a salsa class.
He smiled when he thought of Scarlett and how sexy and uninhibited she seemed moving her hips and tossing her hair over her shoulder. She loved every minute of it and her joy was infectious. He enjoyed it too. It had been a long time since heâd been able to let himself go like that and throw himself into the dance. Heâd definitely go back the following Friday. It would make a change from pounding the treadmill at the gym.
Miranda was a bit of a problem though. She hadnât been pleased when Scarlett had cut in when they were dancing, but he certainly had been. Miranda was a lovely woman, and yes⦠gorgeous looking, and it appeared she might be his for the taking. But it wasnât going to happen.
He liked Miranda as a work colleague and maybe a friend. But that was it. He had no feelings for her at all of a sexual nature. Whereas, when he was anywhere in Scarlettâs orbit, his pulse raced and his throat dried up. Strange behaviour for a man rapidly approaching his thirty-sixth birthday. He wasnât sixteen any more for goodness sake.
Right. No more wool gathering. Back to work. He was anxious to see how Celine was getting on.
He walked to her room, knocked on the door and heard a bright and breezy âcome inâ from his patient. He went in.
âHello, Celine, how are you today?â
âNoah, how lovely to see you.â Celine put her hand out to him as if she was at home and graciously welcoming a gentleman caller.
âYouâre looking well.â She was. Her complexion had improved, and she was a much better colour. The wan, pasty look had gone, and she was wearing expertly applied make-up. Her clothing was fashionable, and she had a wig that suited her, unlike the red monstrosity that she had sported before.
âIâm feeling well. I really donât know why Iâm still here.â
âThe good news, Celine, is that we are letting you go, with the proviso that you see someone on an outpatient basis. It doesnât have to be me, although Iâd be delighted to see you of course, but we do feel that you would benefit from some support in the community.â
âSo, you could still be my psychiatrist?â
âOf course, but I see my patients privately, not on the NHS.â
âThatâs fine, Noah. I would like to continue as your patient seeing as you know me so well and we have already formed a relationship of a kind, in a medical sense of course.â
âIâll let you settle back into the outside world and then you can tell me when youâre ready to see me.â
âHow about you give me your
