Lana didn’t want to talk. Talking to Carson made her realize he wasn’t an enemy. Talking made her realize they had more in common than she first thought. Talking made her want to uncover more about the man she should hate.

But, no, she didn’t hate him. She was more fascinated than she cared to admit.

So no talking. Sex she could handle. She had to keep everything shallow and superficial so she could come out on the other side of this charade unscathed.

Great sex for a month? There was no reason to mess all of that up by getting mixed up in feelings.

But there was something on Carson’s face, something she couldn’t identify.

She reached around him and turned the knob, silently gesturing for him to move on in. She knew his mind was spinning and whatever his thoughts were, she didn’t want to know. Anything he had to think on that long would not be good for their situation.

Passion was easy and passion was all she wanted.

Carson turned, stepped into the house, punched in a code, and reached for her hand to pull her on inside as well. Lana closed the door behind her and immediately reached for the zipper behind her back. When her pencil dress spread apart down her spine, she shrugged her arms until the material fell down to her waist.

There it was. Carson was back in the moment and out of his internal thoughts, which had pulled him away moments ago. His eyes widened as they landed on her bright blue demi bra. That look he gave her each time he saw her bare only boosted her confidence.

“When you look at me like that...”

She didn’t mean to say anything, so she stopped. She didn’t want to talk, right? No feelings. No emotions. There was no room for any of that here.

“What?” he asked. “What were you going to say?”

Lana shook her head, but Carson reached for her. He slid his thumbs in the dress and pushed the piece the rest of the way down to puddle at her feet.

“When I look at you I see beauty,” he told her. “When I look at you I see a strong woman who challenges me and makes me realize this fake engagement isn’t such a bad idea. I see a woman who is just as determined as I am and I see a woman I can’t get enough of.”

He saw too much. He used words that made her uncomfortable because she couldn’t let this temporary situation get out of control. She had a goal—they had a goal.

Lana stepped out of her pooled dress and did a seductive little spin to keep his mind on the sex and less on their forced predicament.

He cursed beneath his breath, then reached for her. She’d barely gotten back around before he gripped her backside, pulled her against him, and lifted her up. Lana locked her ankles behind his back, and her heels clanked to the hardwood floor in the process.

“You’re driving me out of my mind,” he muttered against her mouth as he carried her through the house.
