chapter eleven
Erik felt the doubt that plagued him since he first met Freya slip away. The covetousness and self-consciousness were new to him, and he had not known how to process them. They often rivaled his feelings for Freya, and he worried they would never subside. But her words of encouragement and reassurance were a balm to the ache that resided so deeply within Erik’s mind.
“I admit I needed to hear that, Freya. I have no experience being in love, and the thought of losing you to anything, particularly another man, is an anguish I didn’t know how to bear. Your words bring me relief I didn’t understand how badly I needed.”
“I never would have imagined you to be self-conscious. I still don’t understand why you are, but I will do all I can to reassure you. I don’t want anyone else, Erik. Being in love is new to me, too. Why do you think I fought it for so long? It terrified me you would be the one to leave.”
“I’ve trailed after you for months with a singular focus. Did you think I would give up?”
“I thought maybe it was the pursuit you enjoyed.”
“I may be a glutton for punishment when it comes to how I train, but it’s been agony praying you would notice me.”
“Oh, I noticed you. From the beginning. You threw me off kilter, and I didn’t enjoy feeling out of control. Then I feared giving in, in case this was a game to you.”
“I may have teased you, but this was never a game. I don’t think you see just what value you hold or how remarkable you are. If you did, you would understand my fear.”
“I think we share the same anxiousness. We echo one another. I never imagined my fears would be yours, too.”
Erik lowered his mouth to hers. The time for talking was at an end. They both spoke their minds and their hearts. Now their bodies were ready to express the rest. Freya pressed her long, lean body against his and indulged in the feel of his broad shoulders encasing her as his arms held her pinned against his body. His cock throbbed between them, an outward reminder that none of their ardor cooled during their discussion. Erik cupped Freya’s bottom and lifted her. She wrapped her legs around his waist and moaned as the tip of his rod prodded her entrance.
Freya remembered Erik’s words from when they were on Orkney.
“There is no going back after this, Erik.”
“I only want to move forward with you as my wife. I will make love to you and I will claim you as my wife. You are mine now, and there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind, not ours and not someone else’s, that you are my wife and my woman until we meet again in Valhalla.” Erik pressed down on Freya’s hips as his surged forward. He entered her with ease. Her channel was slick with its readiness for him. Freya clenched around his length and gave a satisfied moan as she shut her eyes.
