CHAPTER ELEVEN

Summer

Rising on her elbow, Summer leaned her head on her hand to stare down at the rugged man lying on his side. Rafe’s dark golden locks fell either side of his flawless face with neat winged eyebrows, a slim straight nose, and wide kissable lips. His magnificent body spread before her like this was a masterpiece, all perfect, rounded, taut muscles with bold scrolls and twisted black tats that spoke of integrity, honor, and valor like the warrior himself. Even his scars and wounds only enhanced the predatory male image he owned. No one wore confidence and power quite like Rafe.

His lean, fighting-fit washboard abs rippled with steel-like strength; a light spattering of darker blond hair tapered downward to a V-shape with corded veins that made her body thrum with explosive and rampant need. The gray quilt hid what treasure lay beneath, but she didn’t need a visual to conjure up memories of the pleasure she had experienced from his cock until the early hours. And still, she wanted him inside her, even when her limbs and muscles ached from his domination, leaving her quivering and boneless.

Just as promised, Rafe fucked her everywhere in his office that spoke of a cultured elegance that surprised her. STEPS shocked her. Although they had talked in between the sex, it hadn’t been at length. The warmth of the natural wood mixed with dark metal and clear glass spoke of control and order. The only real color in the room came from the wildflowers displayed in a milk carton, a touching attempt at romance.

From the moment she stepped out of her car, Summer’s defenses surrendered to the irresistible force of Rafe. His simple touch and gravelly voice penetrated her soul, throwing caution and common sense to the far corners of the planet. Every inch of her hyper-sensitive body hungered for him, and the minute he withdrew, loneliness claimed her.

Summer wanted to seduce Rafe until he was at her mercy. She wanted to adjust the grave imbalance between them. Sucking on the corner of her mouth, she sighed. Slowly, she twisted away to search for her clothes, deciding to retreat and leave instead. Sliding an inch at a time, unwilling to wake the sleeping giant, she moved from Rafe, but she felt a bite at her shoulder and an arm snaked around her belly. She failed. He yanked her tight until she was pressed firmly against the granite slab of his chest. The heat from Rafe’s body enveloped her, and he slid his hand down to cup her sex, stilling her. Knowing it was useless to resist, she sank into him and rested her head against his shoulder as his fingers stroked and circled her already wet clit in a teasing and tantalizing way.

“Go, if you want. I won’t stop you, Summer.”

Hearing his words, she stiffened. In order to leave, she needed to move. Rafe didn’t really care about her. This, whatever it was, was temporary and a disaster in the making.
