The Highland Regency Hotel was gorgeous, inside and out. The suite Fallon had reserved for us was even better.

“Holy shit, Julien! How?” Elijah exclaimed as soon as we walked inside the almost palatial two-thousand-square-foot suite.

“What do you think?” Even though it was all Fallon’s doing, I felt smug as hell that I could give this to Elijah.

He did a slow turn, taking in everything I had set up beforehand. He approached one of the vases of roses sitting on the dresser and bent down to sniff it. As he walked over to the bed to inspect the rose petals that I’d sprinkled all over the bedspread, I circled around the room and lit each candle I’d laid out. I knew all of this was probably overkill, but I couldn’t help myself.

Elijah turned around to face me, and I could see the tears brimming in his eyes. My man was such a softie.

“Julien, you shouldn’t have done all of this. This must have cost you a fortune.”

It would have if Fallon hadn’t paid for it all. When I’d told Fallon thank you, but I would take care of any expenses, he told me to fuck off—with a smile, of course. He was doing it whether I liked it or not. When I asked him why he would do this for me, his reply was, “You love him and make him happy. That’s all I need to know. Besides, I’m richer than God and can do whatever the fuck I want with my money. Get over it.”

I turned down the lights with the adjustable switch on the wall, the flicker of candlelight creating soft shadows throughout the room.

“You may want to thank Fallon first. The suite was all him.”

“Not all him,” Elijah replied, taking a rose petal between his thumb and forefinger and rubbing it. “Thank you, Julien.”

I slid my jacket off and pulled out my phone to select some music to play. “Thank me for what, babe?”

“For loving me,” he simply stated.

As Hayley Michelle’s voice sang her cover of “Wild Horses,” my feet ate up the distance between us.

“Loving you is easy.”

I slipped my hands under his suit jacket and pushed it over his shoulders until it fell to the floor behind him. I next unknotted his tie and tugged at it until it slid from under his collar, then I threw it onto the bed. I did the same to the tie I was wearing.

Reaching up to cup one side of his face, I wiped his cheek with my thumb, drying his tears. Elijah shrugged his shoulder and tilted his head to cradle his cheek in my hand. My gray eyes roamed his face, taking in every detail, every nuance, of this gorgeous man.

Wrapping my left arm around his waist, I stepped into his body and started to move us gently from side to side in a slow dance.

“I never knew life could be so wonderful until you came along, Elijah. You make me happy.”

He had opened up to me more about his mom and how her leaving had affected him.
