Chapter 6: Sofia

Life was so much better being friends with Gia. Avoiding the younger woman felt unnatural.

There was never a time when they avoided each other. If anything, it had been the opposite when they were kids.

Well, one time. Sofia avoided her like the plague when Gia kissed her for the first time. Only because she was afraid of how Cammie would feel.

Little did she know, Cammie wouldn’t even have cared. She spent so much time worrying about her best friend finding out she was dating her younger sister, and she always knew.

Speaking of her best friend’s younger sister. Gia walked into the diner with a smile on her face. She was dressed for work.

Sofia smiled. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

“Working today?”

“Yeah, I’m actually on shift now. I was just picking up some coffee for everyone. They make terrible coffee at the station.”

“Not everyone can make coffee as good as me.”

Gia grinned. “This is true.”

“How many coffees do you need?”

“Eight.”

“Okay. I just made a fresh pot. I’ll get you some cup holders too.”

Sofia got to work pouring coffee into the cups. She felt Gia’s eyes on her as she poured.

“How’s the diner been today?”

“Kind of slow.”

“Be quiet!” Felicity said as she came from the kitchen with an order. “That’s like saying Macbeth in a theater.”

“I’m not superstitious like that, Felicity.”

“Yeah, not at all,” Gia said. “She doesn’t even believe in astrology.”

“What? Are you insane?”

“I think it’s insane to decide if I should date someone based on their birthdate.”

“Oh my goodness,” Felicity said. “I had no idea you were like this. What’s wrong with you?”

“Why don’t you go take the food to the table before Janet starts to give you the evil eye?”

Felicity nodded in agreement. “That woman does tend to scare me.”

Sofia finished up the coffees and placed them in the cup holders. “Do you need any cream or sugar?”

“We have some at the station. But, thanks.”

“Of course.”

“What do I owe you?”

“Nothing. On the house.”

“No, I’m paying. How much?”

“Consider it my donation to Station 7.”

Gia sighed. She knew there was no point in arguing with Sofia. “Fine. But I owe you dinner for the other night.”

“Anytime. As long as you don’t cook the food.”

Gia laughed. “Of course I wouldn’t. I like you. I don’t want to try and poison you.” She picked up both coffee holders and smiled. “Maybe I’ll see you later.”

“Yeah, maybe.” She grinned and watched Gia walk out of the diner. Her eyes lingered on her as she walked out of her view. She sighed and smiled, leaning against the counter.

After about a minute, she finally looked away from the direction where Gia had headed.

She jumped as her eyes met Felicity’s. She was staring at her with a raised eyebrow. “What was that?”

Sofia shrugged, trying and failing to play dumb. “What was what?”

“The mesmerizing stare.”

“I wasn’t mesmerizing. I was just lost in thought.”

Felicity laughed. “Yeah, dirty thoughts.”

“Oh, be quiet. That is not even true. I don’t have dirty thoughts.”

“Everyone has dirty thoughts.”

“Not me.”

“Whatever you say, boss. You have to admit though, you’ve got it bad for that woman.
