Chapter fourteen
Unity
Am I really doing this? I glance back as I push the door to my old bedroom open. My ass is throbbing red, the exact opposite of the placid, emotionless gray walls of my room. The bed is a brand-new queen, and my cork boards full of pictures and swimming medals are gone. The white vanity and dressers have been replaced with a neutrally stained, oak armoire and dresser while the décor resting on the top are things my mother probably wrote a check to an interior designer for. There are no pictures of people on the walls.
This could be a hotel room with how impersonal everything is.
âUnity.â My name rumbles past his lips, a command, demanding my attention. Thereâs a single click and the bedside lamp throws a soft glow throughout the room. I turn to face him and oh my God. His shirt is off. His chest is covered in ink. Thereâs a lot of writing, some kind of fancy script laced with thorns. Thereâs a sun on his right shoulder, the rays cascading across the art on his chest and down his arm. His broad shoulders sit atop pectoral muscles that have my lower belly tightening and my mouth filling with saliva. My eyes are glued to his torso, sucking in the sight of the body that is more than the last time I saw it.
The ink across his chest is practically 3D. The images trail down, across a washboard stomach that has my tongue darting out to wet my lips. I want to sink my fingers into his ass and taste every ridge of his abdomen.
Oh God. I bet heâs still got that V. The Adonis belt. Itâs just the inguinal ligament and the transverse abdominis muscles and yet my fourth favorite place on his body. Does it still taste like it used to?
âProbably.â
I take a step back, my eyes flaring wide in my scalding hot face as they dart up to scan his. Heâs grinning. Fucking hell did I just say that out loud?
âYes, you did.â I take another step back, my entire body aflame with lust and embarrassment, and watch as his chin drops before he steps towards me. His eyes are hooded, locking on me like a predator as I give ground. My heart is slamming against my ribs like a caged wild thing. Any instincts of self-preservation have long abandoned ship. My thoughts are scattered, common sense and rationality concepts belonging to a different Unity from an alternate timeline. Nothing exists but this moment, this place, this man filling all of the dead space surrounding me. I might be stepping away, but Iâm not running, Iâm surrendering. To him, to myself, to the way things were meant to be. The back of my thighs hit the bed. If I take a deep breath my tits are going to touch his chest. He leans down, burying his nose in between my breasts until he slowly drags it up my chest.
My eyes drift shut.
