If he’d killed a man in cold blood Rider would have been more lenient on Texas. The fact that their own laws meant talking to the police was a far worse crime than murder was paramount to him accepting his fate as he walked out of the MC with stares scorched into his back.

He’d known how it would end and even then, he’d figured it would all unravel one of these days because he’d put himself in a predicament with no good outcome. Not for him anyway. He’d tried to keep it all together, trying to pacify his brother and to keep everyone happy and safe. But that was a fool’s errand.

Climbing onto his bike, Texas took the long scenic journey through town to his loft apartment. The sigh bolted out of his chest reaching his destination. He wanted a shower, he felt about as low and dirty as he’d even been.

Shoulders drooped.

His chest tight.

His head throbbing. Texas unlocked his apartment. If he knew Rider as well as he thought he did, then somewhere lurking would be an RSMC member.

It was expected so he wasn’t angry. He had no room for anger.

A shower didn’t make Texas feel any better. He stared at his leather cut, the one he’d worn for years and how it fit exactly to his body. That leather vest gave him a purpose and a goal and just like that he’d fucked it all up.

Grabbing the bottle of Jack from the kitchen counter he carried it through to the living room by its slim neck, he didn’t bother with a glass, taking two fast pulls the burn was welcome so he took two more and then two after that.

With his upper body and feet bare, hair wet it was an odd sensation swirling in his chest knowing the outcome of his life.

Nothing made sense and yet Texas wondered if he could have done anything different.

Not fuck over the only men to have ever had his back.

That would have been a good start.

He prowled.

Restless.

Around and around the perimeter of his loft. The bottle dangled from two fingers, he took periodic pulls from the alcohol until his brain fuzzed over.

Half a bottle of Jack Daniels later the pain in his entire body was numb.

Blissfully numb.

A knock drew his attention.

It could have been any number of people at the door.

He was too blitzed to care if it was his firing squad come early.

He wasn’t even pissed none of his boys had come by to either punch his face in or ask him what the hell had happened.

Club was club and his boys were club to the blood.

The very last person he expected was in his doorway.

And the one person to sense when his control was at its weakest.

A shift of air plowed through Texas’ lungs rendering him speechless as he looked on at his brother’s wife.

Addison.

The unobtainable.

The destructive.

The downright wrong.

She smiled her shy, socialite smile. The kind of smile Texas knew was trained from birth. He always wondered if the girl knew how to show genuine joy and happiness at all.
