As we turned into the cul-de-sac, I noticed Quince was no longer touching me. He was toeing the line again, I thought.

“So what are your plans for tonight?” I asked him.

“Oh, I promised to go out with John for a while tonight.”

My stomach fell. So much for spending his last night together with me, I thought.

“Anything fun?” I asked.

“John wants to go out drinking, so I told him I would be the designated driver,” he said.

I smiled faintly, and murmured, “A true friend.”

We stopped in front of my house. “Well I guess I will see you later than,” I said. “Hope you have fun tonight.”

He looked a little uncomfortable, and then lifted his chin. “I will talk to you later Megan.”

He turned and walked away. I watched him until he turned the corner of my house and I couldn’t see him anymore.

I swallowed hard, trying to ease the burning in my eyes. I wasn’t going to cry, I thought. My eyes were just burning. I probably got some sweat in my eyes.

Turning into the house, I decided to look on the internet for jobs that I could apply for in Belford. I was not going to be upset, even if I thought Quince should stay home with me.

I was not about to argue with him Besides, if I had made plans with Macey, would I want to hear him complaining about wanting me to change my plans or whining about being alone?

Who was I kidding? If I had the option to be with Quince and practically anything else, I would choose Quince every single time, hands down.

But I have had several years of yearning for him, and he had only had several days, so it was understandable. Besides, we would probably get to the point where we would see each other too much in less than a month when I moved there.

I found 3 great jobs that I applied for online and then I started looking at area hospitals, looking for any jobs there that were part-time. I would love to do anything I could there to help people.

I was instantly inspired when I saw they were hiring for gift shop help and candy stripers, the people that brought items to the patients such as catalogs, magazines and spent time with the patients so they wouldn’t be alone or get lonely.

I applied for that as well. Noticing the time, I went to the kitchen and my parents were there, discussing dinner.

“I am starving,” I piped in.

We decided to go out and grab a bite to eat. When we left, I noticed Quince’s truck was gone. Good, I thought, hope he has a lovely time.

Of course, when we got back home, I had to take note that his truck was still not back. Well, I thought, bars close at 2am, so he had hours of time to have just a swell time, I think smirking to myself. Bitter much, I laughed to myself. Hey, at least I was entertaining, I told myself.
