I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of whoever was fucking with Audrey’s car. I watch my rearview all the way home. No fucking way I am leaving her alone. Pulling into the driveway, Berry comes running to the truck. I’m going to start leaving her in the house when we aren’t home.
Making sure no one is around; I get out of the truck and walk over open Audrey’s door. I motion her to get on my back. I give her a piggyback ride into the house. It doesn’t look like anyone has been here. Sitting her down in the doorway, and looking into her eyes, I can see that she is scared.
“Look at me, nothing is going to happen. I will protect you, even if it means giving up my own life. I would rather die than live miserably without you.” I say as I wipe a tear from her cheek.
“I couldn’t live without you. There is no way. If it’s Ian, we have to make him pay for what he has done.”
“We will, let’s go look online and see what he looks likes now.”
“The man I saw wasn’t him, I would have noticed him. I will never forget that look in his eyes that day he forced his way into the loft. I still have fucking nightmares.” She shutters.
“Come on, I need to see what this psycho looks like.”
As we walk into my office, a weird feeling comes back to me. I grab Audrey and pull her behind me. Looking out the window, I don’t see anyone. Berry isn’t barking so it may be my imagination. Turning on the computer, I log onto a site where I know I can find a picture of Ian. Waiting for the image to load, I look into my woman’s face and fear is all over it.
The image appears on the screen, but as I look at him, he isn’t the guy I saw. The man I saw was a little older. It couldn’t have been the same man. I look up to see Audrey crying. I pull her onto my lap. I can’t believe he has her so afraid of him. I want to rip his head off with my bare hands. No fucking way he is getting close to her again.
“So is he the same man?” she whimpers.
“No, that isn’t him. The man I saw was a little older. Can you think of anyone else that may be after you?”
“No…I can’t think of anyone, unless it could be someone from one of my cases. They all know where I work. So it could have been any of them.” She sighs as she clings to me.
“You aren’t going back there. No way in hell, I am letting anyone from there hurt you. I’m calling Alton. He can look into this more. He may have some connections. I know that since Ian’s father retired. Not a lot of them have much to do with him.”
“Okay, well what I am supposed to do? I still have a couple meetings.
