CHAPTER 19 - Way Too Easy, Almost Too Easy.

Sub-level, twenty-eight. Inside Hangar 68’s compound. James watched the floors zip past him, standing in one of the large magnetic elevators. His crocodile-like face and muscular body; were stained with fresh and dried blood. The floor had splatters of red puddles as his sweat beaded down to mix with them. A man’s torn-off face was lying upon one of the crimson pools, staring up at him. “I still can’t believe you went through with it.”, Mr. Bones says.

“You told me it’d bypass the scanning device if needed.”

“HAHahaha. I just thought it would be funny!”

James shakes his head. “You and I definitely, do not have the same sense of humor.” He watches more of the floors zip by him. “Something doesn’t seem right.”

“Oh?”, Bones asks.

“This place has cameras everywhere. Even above me, I can see one. I haven’t seen one person on any of these other floors. What are the chances they’re preparing for us?”

“I’d say, 80% to 20% chance. Their favor they are.”

James nods. “I’m taking out this camera!” Quickly, he leaps, scaling the wall to slash through the camera, it then rains its fragments down.

Inside the monitoring station.

Shrapnel stares at a now static camera that reads LOST FEED. He looks toward another displaying floor numbers, counting up from thirty-two.

“What card was swiped?”, he asks one of the cadets behind a screen.

“Dr. Alan Corbin’s sir. Looks like he’s a high-card science officer. His card goes all the way up from twenty-eight to fifty-two it looks like.”

“Where’s he going?”, he says, just under his breath.

“Alright. Are all our units ready for this?”

“Yes sir. They’re all prepped with the electron magazines!”, another answers.

“Excellent. Have them all take the next elevator up.”, Shrapnel says.

“Which floor, sir?”, the young cadet asks.

He motions to the screen. “Whichever one he stops at.”

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

“Hmm. Looks like it’s stopped at forty-eight.”, says the cadet.

Quickly, Shrapnel turns to see the blinking numbers. “That is not a floor I was expecting. Why didn’t he just go up the ladder to fifty-two? He’d be closer to getting out of here.”

Dr. Warstein leans in. “Perhaps, zhere’s somezhing guiding him?”

He looks at her with a face like he’s just seen a car accident. “I want teams A, B, and C on that floor, immediately!” He gets angry, storming toward the stairwell to exit the room with a few of his guards. “These goddamn telepaths!”

He points to Warstein. “I thought you had that thing sedated?!”

“It’s probably worn off by now. You must remember zheir biology is far different zhan ours. Ve can only make calculations matching our own. If not ve risk killing him!”

“Yeah? Well, your calculations are starting to not look so accurate these days!”, the automatic door slides open, and he leaves the room.

She sighs, shaking her head. “Even ve have to admit. Zhere are somezhings far over all our heads, zhat ve can’t even comprehend. I fear ve’ve all overestimated our achievements...”, she says to herself.
