My mind keeps returning to when I found Theresa in the kitchen, desperately fanning the smoke around her. When our eyes met, I saw her hopelessness and embarrassment. I had to use all my strength to keep myself from laughing.
This heiress really needs a lot of lessons in life. She wasted a tray of eggs in one go! And I donât even want to talk about the bread.
Well, at least sheâs honest about not knowing how to cook before today. I know sheâs embarrassed, but sheâs just being true to herself. I showed her how to cook an egg, and Iâm sure she wouldnât be able to remember even one step next time.
But while weâre in the kitchen trying to clean up the mess, I discover that Iâm surprisingly comfortable. Iâm having fun, and all the thoughts I fought while I was alone in her room vanished. Here I am again, falling for Theresaâs charm and warmth.
âCan we eat now?â she asks, wiping the counter with paper towels. Itâs funny how sheâs never concerned about her supplies. But I canât blame her; sheâll never run out of them anyway.
âWhat do you mean? You still have to cook an egg,â I tell her, emptying her trash can.
âI already cooked one!â she groans.
âAnd you burned it, maâam,â I tease.
âBut you already cooked two!â she argues. âThatâs enough, right?â
âWeâre not eating until we have your perfect eggs, Theresa,â I challenge her, taking the paper towel from her hands and throwing them into the trash can. âWash your hands and try again.â
âAre you serious?â
I look up at her, smile, and nod. âOf course, I am!â
She stares at me, evidently annoyed and still wondering if Iâm joking. I stand up, push her gently to the sink, and make her wash her hands. âCome on. You donât want to starve, do you?â
She finally laughs and then splashes some water on me. I shriek, hit her arm playfully, and put the pan back on the stove. Sheâs not going to fool me this time.
âEm, Iâm hungry,â she moans, drying her hands on her apron. âCan we just have the two eggs you cooked? And we have toast, too!â
I notice how good her arms look in her sleeveless top. The apron adds to her hotness, too. She could pass off as a carefree, rockstar wife.
If only she knew how to actually cook.
âJust make one more for me, please?â I beg, giving her my puppy eyes. I pout, acting like a child asking for some candy. âItâd really make me proudâ¦â
Theresa squints, bites her lip, and shakes her head. She chuckles as she points a finger at me. âYouâre really doing this right now, huh?â
I donât know why Iâm letting my guard down. Iâm teasing her, being soft and warm, and it feels so good. I can see sheâs enjoying this side of me, too.
âAlright,â she huffs, grabbing an egg from a tray. âOne sunny side up egg, coming right up!â
I do little jumps while clapping. I tiptoe next to her and rest my head against her arm.
