JOY LET OUT A LONG sigh. She had been a part of a big meeting this morning, but only for a few minutes. Hope had shared a lot of information. I can’t believe I almost became a part of New Beginning. It could have been me delivering bad news! Nonetheless, her admiration for Hope was restored. The she-bee had chosen to act before it was too late, despite knowing that she was risking her life. Hope could be saving the entire hive from this group’s dark plans. She shared more after Joy had been dismissed from the meeting, and while she burned with curiosity, she knew that some things were meant to remain in the hands of leadership.

The day of questions and queries had dragged on, and now Joy was resting in her room. She recalled how she’d felt uneasy about New Beginning straight away. This was a powerful moment for her, since she now knew her inklings had been correct. She’d know for any future scenarios what it feels like when Lighthive sends a warning. It solidified things for her.

Interrupting her thoughts, she heard the door close in the cell next to her. Courage! Joy hadn’t connected with her dear brother in so long, and she missed him terribly. She immediately went to knock.

“Who is it?”

“It’s Joy.”

“Come in.” Joy entered his cell, happy to see him. She peered at him as he lay on his pollen stuffed cushion, clearly exhausted. While he looked tired, his eyes gleamed with warmth and passion as he stared at his ceiling. It was as if he weren’t totally present.

“I’ve missed you, brother.” Joy sat herself beside him. “You seem... Well, you’re a walking contradiction aren’t you?” She looked down at him with amusement. “You look as though you have not a shred of effort left in your body, and yet... your gaze is alight with energy!”

Courage blinked obliviously as he looked at his sister. “I don’t know what you mean.” His eyes were glazed over like he was living in another reality. Shaking his head, he yawned. “I’ve been learning a lot. Maybe you are seeing the fire of knowledge in me.” He chuckled, at last becoming fully present. “How are you sister?”

Joy smiled curiously. “I’m alright. It’s been a very eventful few days. I was just in a meeting with hive leadership this morning. There are some internal concerns in the hive I have learned a bit about.”

Courage tilted his head with piqued interest. “Tell me more.”

Joy did her best to summarize what she knew. She reminded him about her personal experience with New Beginning, and then detailed how Hope had made leadership aware of a threat. After about ten minutes, she concluded. “I know I was only given the short story before I was asked to leave, and I too have plenty of unanswered questions. Honestly, it was by pure chance that I even got to know this much, since I was scheduled with Pollen when she was summoned. Because I happened to have experienced New Beginning, she let me tag along.
