“No, you don’t understand what it’s like over there!” the man wheezed. Sweat dripped off his forehead, blurring his eyes, and he wiped it away with a dirty sleeve. “There’s no food, no water, and there are gangs everywhere killing people for no reason at all! I had to get my family out of there!” He flexed his fingers around the hilt of the hunting knife as more sweat dripped onto his hostage.

“We’re not saying you can’t stay, only that we have to make sure you’re not sick to make others here sick,” Ramsey shouted, hands on his hips and feet spread in a threatening posture. “What’s your name?” Ramsey asked, resuming his forceful tactic.

“Frank,” the man coughed.

“Now, Frank, I know you don’t want to hurt this little girl…”

“I will not drop the knife!” he screamed.

“I’m not asking you to. All I’m asking is for you to take it away from her neck; you’re scaring her.” Ramsey changed to a calmer demeanor, maintaining eye contact.

Frank breathed heavy and let the knife drop a few inches while still keeping it in front of the child.
