Chapter Eleven: Secrets Exposed

Once Vincent had realized that the light wasn’t going to hurt them, his brain had simply been overwhelmed by its sheer pulsating beauty. It had been all he could do to watch the amazing brightness flow into their bodies.

But now the light was gone and his brain was working once more. His father had told him of his first time with Vincent’s mother. The combining of their powers had created an earthquake that had rocked the entire kingdom. Their union had been Fire and Earth. Vincent didn’t know what kingdom combined with Fire would create light, and truthfully at this point, he didn’t care.

The only thing that mattered now was that his powers had joined with another royal’s. For all eternity, he was joined in marriage to the young man beside him.

The revelation left him in shock and filled him with rage as he leaped from the bed, grabbing his tunic and thrusting it roughly over his head.

Vincent, still dealing with his own rage, couldn’t grasp what the boy’s words meant in time. And seconds later, Hoot had grabbed his leggings and boots and ran from the house. A second later Vincent ran after him. The young man, whoever he was, was fast. No, that wasn’t accurate. Vincent was fast, young Hoot ran like the very wind itself. The wind.

The Fire King stumbled and stopped as the realization hit him. He turned to face the house again, remembering the strong wind blowing the heat of his power around before the powers joined into the light. The powers of Air and Fire.

Hoot was the Air Prince. Then who the hell was the imposter posing as him?

Whoever it was, it was obvious that they had threatened Hoot’s loved ones. He had to catch up to Hoot before the imposter returned and was able to carry out his threat. Together they would find a way.

Vincent hurried back to the small house to gather their equipment and set the birds free. He had no doubt that they would follow him back to his much larger aviary. The time wasted was a necessity.

He had certainly handled the situation wrong in his initial shock. How could he have believed Hoot--or
