Nathan

“I’ll see you tomorrow after your MRI,” I said as I softly kissed her lips.

“See you tomorrow.” A beautiful smile crossed her mouth as she opened the door.

Walking out, I headed to my car and drove home. As soon as I pulled into the driveway, Ella and Lily came running over.

“Hi, Dad!”

“Hey, kiddo.” I smiled when I climbed out of the car and picked her up. “How was your day?”

“It was a lot of fun. I wish you could have been there.”

“I’ll take you there myself one day.” I set her down.

“Can you buy me the surgery simulator software? You promised, and Lily and I want to play it.”

“Let’s go inside and take a look at it.”

“Yay! I’ll go grab my laptop.” She ran into the house.

“So, Nathan.” Lily followed me into the kitchen. “What did you do today?”

“I had lunch with a friend.”

“Who is she?” Her brow arched.

“Who said it was a ‘she?’”

“Because you didn’t include a name. If you had a friend named Bob, you would have said his name after friend. Like this: I had lunch with my friend Bob.”

“Miss Lily.” I shook my finger at her, and a smirk crossed her lips.

“Here’s my laptop.” Ella walked into the kitchen and set it on the table. “Just give me a second, and I’ll bring up the website.”

I walked over and took a look.

“Ella, this is for doctors and residents only.”

“And? You’re a doctor. All they need is your medical license number.”

“And it also costs nine hundred and ninety-nine dollars.”

The sliding door opened, and Conner walked in.

“What’s up, my favorite flower, my favorite niece, and bro?” He grinned.

“My dad is trying to suppress my education, Uncle Conner.”

“Aw, sweetheart. How dare he.” He looked at me with a raised brow.

“She wants that surgery simulator, and it’s nine hundred and ninety-nine dollars!”

“So what? You can afford it. What kind of father are you? Your daughter wants to perform surgeries like her father and her uncles. How can you deny her that? Just bill it through the medical center. It’s medical related.” He grinned.

“Bill what through the medical center?” Jackson asked as he walked in.

“The surgery simulator your niece wants so she can practice saving people’s lives,” Conner said. “Cheap ass brother over here isn’t being very nice.”

“I am not being cheap. I’m just not sure she should be doing that right now.”

“See. He’s suppressing my education. I can’t help what my brain wants, Dad.”

I looked at Jackson, and he snickered.

“Just get it for her. Who knows, maybe she’ll be assisting us in the O.R in a few years.”

“She’s six!”

“And?” Jackson smiled.

I sighed as I took my wallet from my pocket and pulled out my credit card. After keying in all the required information, I hit download.

“It says it’ll take an hour for it to download. Go take your laptop upstairs.”

“Thanks, Dad.” Ella threw her arms around my legs. “I love you.”

“I love you too, kiddo.”

As soon as she and Lily went upstairs, I opened the fridge and took out three beers.
