Chapter Fifteen
I flipped through the pages of wedding gowns, trying to make the impossible decision. If we wanted to bring a baby into this family, I needed to marry one of the women. Just one of the beautiful bachelorettes that filled my heart and my days with joy and love and laughter. How the hell could I choose and risk breaking the heart of the other two?
As if making this choice didnât weigh on me heavily enough, I still had to come up with a scene to safely play out with Wynn. Her unexpected request came out of nowhere, and if I waited too long, she might grow fearful that I held no desire to be her Domme.
âMiss Eden?â
My head whipped up at the sound of Denishaâs voice, and I let the magazine flutter shut. âWhatâs up, sweetie?â
âHave you got a minute to talk?â She stood in the doorway, hesitation evident in the way she shifted from foot to foot while she let her gaze dart everywhere but to me.
I patted the bed beside me, trying not to frown in worry for fear sheâd misconstrue it as displeasure with her. âI always have time for you. Are you okay?â
She padded across the room on bare toes decked out in varying neon polishes. When she sat beside me, a heavy sigh left her small frame. âIâve been thinking a lot.â
âOkay?â Please donât say youâre moving back in with you mom!
âAnd I figured out where I want to go to college and get my degree in child psychology.â
Relief filled me at her words. Denisha was not only great with kids, sheâd be a perfect advocate for children with disabilities. Her compassion and kindness knew no limits, and she could be a fierce fighter when the need arose. âThatâs great.â
âIn Florida.â
âWhat?â I could feel the blood drain from my face. My brain screamed protests as my stomach lurched. âW-why so far away?â
A flush tinged her cheeks at my question. âW-well,â she stammered. âDaniel is going and I wanna go too.â
Deep breaths. Be logical. âWhere do you plan to stay?â I finally asked once I took four calming breaths to slow my heart rate down. âDorm living is expensive. What about daily costs too?â There. If I kept the conversation logical, I wouldnât risk acting like her mother. I never wanted to feel like sheâd angered me because she was making life choices. Life choices that any person had the right to make for themselves.
Denisha picked at the edge of her shorts as I spoke. âMiss Kay said she has a place down there. Itâs why they chose that one. She said itâs three bedroom and I can stay at no expense. I thought maybe a student worker job, or⦠I qualified for the Pell Grant.â
âThatâs good.â I nodded my encouragement. âIt sounds like youâve already put some effort into figuring this out. When do you start?â
âThis September, if I hurry up. Itâs gonna be tight, but I think itâll work out.â
A lump formed in my throat.
