DPI.

DPI stands for ‘dots per inch’, and refers to how large the image is in pixels. Images are usually produced at a much larger size than they appear on screen, so that they look good in print. Working at a high DPI also improves the overall image quality when the image is reduced and saved at a lower size for use on the internet.

Selection tool.

The selection tool allows you to specify certain areas of the image to work on. You can use either the manual select (allowing you to draw the area you wish to work on), or the ‘magic wand’ tool which will grab an area based upon the existing lines. Once you’ve made a selection it’s possible to remove and add sections to the current selection area, allowing greater control over what areas you work on.
