Mangus Coloradas pointed at the trader's nose. “This time you pay more, because these are very good horses.”

Mustache smiled nervously. “All right—we will meet you at noon tomorrow.”

"Enjuh,” said Mangus Coloradas. “It is good.”

Mangus Coloradas and his warriors climbed onto their horses, wheeled them around, and kicked their ribs. The horses sprang forward and galloped out of town, the Apaches yipping and yelling, brandishing their weapons. In seconds they were disappearing over prickly pear cactus and through groves of palo verde trees, becoming one with the unknowable desert that had spawned them.
