Chapter 21
BREATHE THROUGH IT
âIs there any possibility of talking my way out of this?â
I know better than to think I might get a positive response, but now that Iâm standing in Leviâs office, watching him prepare the tattoo gun, Iâm nervous. Heâs not a professionalâhe could make a mistake, or his tools could give me an infection, or I could get stuck with something ugly on my chest for all eternity.
Though, I suppose none of the tattoos he gave himself are ugly.
Levi took his shirt off, and now, I can admire the full impact of them. He added more last night and over the last week. Black ink stretches across his torso, up over his shoulders and down onto either arm. Itâs a pattern of sharp lines and strings of circles, arranged together like a strange game of Tetris. It looks like what I imagine a computer might print if asked its thoughts, or one of those crop circles people like to make. Theyâre definitely alien-like and really hot.
Levi straightens and turns to look at me. âNo.â
No smile. No mercy.
âCareful. Iâll use my feminine wiles on you.â I slip my leg out of my satin robe and wiggle it like some boneless burlesque dancer.
Heâs fighting a smile. âRobe off, sweet menace.â
Levi beckons me toward him with two fingers, the iron of his rings glinting in the dim light, and itâs both the hottest thing Iâve ever seen and the scariest. He wonât let me off the hook for this one; this tattoo is happening, whether I lay down happily for it or not.
I sigh and push the robe off my shoulders, letting it cascade to the ground.
Before he can order me around anymore, I lower myself to the floor, reclining where heâs prepared a pillow for my head. The wooden floor is cold, and my nipples harden into rosy red pebbles, the rest of my abdomen breaking out into gooseflesh. At least I can still wear my underwear. In fact, Levi insisted on it.
I can understand why when his gaze catches on my bare chest and lingers. I smile at him, not that heâs paying any attention to my face.
He quickly shakes away his fascination as he kneels over me, messing with some items above my head. It is clear that he doesnât want to be distracted, and neither do I. Mistakes happen when people are distracted, mistakes like burning dinner or brushing off a weird freckle on your skin or⦠falling in love. Those kind of mistakes canât be made right.
Tattoo gun in hand, Levi flicks on the power supply and swings a leg over my hips so that heâs straddling me. His free hand spreads over my sternum, his thumb and pinkie finger resting on the swells of my breasts, his skin hot and the rings ice cold. His eyes glaze over as he studies that valley of cream fleshâheâs thinking, planning.
I donât interrupt.
After a long minute of him tracing his fingertips all over my chest like heâs memorizing every inch, he bends, resting his elbows on the floor to either side of my chest.
