Ten minutes later they were all sitting around the coffee table awkwardly. Jacob and Milo had dragged chairs from the kitchen table and Liam and Clint were sitting on the couch as far away from each other as physically possible.

“That’s a shared couch,” Jacob pointed out.

Clint narrowed his eyes at him. “Liam, this is my youngest brother, Jacob.”

Liam lifted his hand and nodded. “And that’s my nephew, Milo.”

Clint eyed the kid up and down. Besides the horrified look on his face, he was a good-looking teenager with dark curls and wide-set eyes. Occasionally, he would glance at Jacob and then back at the two men.

“Erm, when did you two meet?” Liam asked, desperately trying to make the situation less mortifying for everyone.

Milo swallowed and rubbed the back of his neck. “We go to the same school.”

Jacob pointed at Clint. “Uh, excuse me, I’ll be the one asking the questions. How did you two meet?”

Clint raised an eyebrow and wondered if it was considered child abuse if he gave his brother a swirly. “We met at work. Liam is a doctor.”

“Well, Milo is class president,” Jacob sneered, unable to help one-upping his brother.

Clint glanced at the class president in question. He looked like he was trying to disappear into the carpet. Suddenly something clicked.

“Is this the kid you have a crush on?”

Jacob’s mouth dropped, and he stared at him. “Wesley told you?!”

The embarrassment disappeared from Clint, and he stared at the kid who Jacob was crushing on. Of course, the kid his brother was interested in was the nephew of the guy he was sort of seeing.

Life just loved to make things complicated for him.

It might be funny if it wasn’t so stupid.

“You have a car?” he asked Milo.

The teenager shook his head. “No, I can walk everywhere.”

“Job?”

Another head shake. “My foster father wants me to focus on school.”

Foster father? Liam had said something about his nephew being adopted but that meant…

“Dr. Death is your foster father?”

Liam chuckled. “Yes, Neal is his foster father.”

Clint rubbed his temples. “Are you two dating?”

The room grew silent, and Jacob licked his lips as if he wanted to say something, but nothing came out, finally Milo reached across and took Jacob’s hand.

“Not exactly.” Jacob stared at the hand holding his, but Milo was sitting straight and making direct eye contact.

“Sir, I apologize for not speaking to you sooner. I wanted to speak to my foster father first and get his permission to begin a romantic relationship.”

Liam raised an eyebrow. “Neal knows?”

Milo nodded. “Yes.” He patted Jacob’s hand and then pushed himself to his feet. He looked at Clint and balled his hands into fists. “I know this is a bit rushed, and maybe not proper timing, but I really care about Jacob. I would like your permission to date him.”

The room was completely silent. Clint wasn’t sure if he wanted to laugh or cry. Some teenager was looking at him like he was the executioner, and the kid's head was on the chopping block. But he had to hand it to him—he had guts.
