* * * *

Bruno groaned as he grabbed the back of his head and opened his eyes. He winced at the throb, and then sat up, looking around. He was in some kind of small shop, and from the inch of dust covering everything, a shop that hadn’t been used in a while.

He spotted the trail left behind from when he was dragged inside, then the footprints that led to the back of the store.

Bruno got to his feet, swayed, and then gripped the counter. No way was he this discombobulated from a whack to the head. What had the bastard done to him?

Staggering, Bruno followed the footprints, but to his dismay and anger, they led straight out the back door. Why attack him and drag him in here if the guy wasn't going to do anything to him?

Bruno stumbled to the front when he heard someone jiggling the doorknob. He looked around for a weapon, but all he saw were computer parts.

So he shifted into his wolf, ready to attack.

The door swung open, and Bruno growled, only to see Avery and Rider standing there with their weapons drawn. Relief flooded him as he shifted back to his human form. "What the hell took you guys so long?"

Bruno had no idea how long he'd been knocked out. It could've been minutes or hours.

"Oh God, I'm gonna go blind," Rider said while holding up his hand. "Don't you have any clothes to put on?"

Bruno growled. "Yeah, I keep some spare jeans in my fur." He stormed toward the door, and then stopped. "At least give me your shirt so I can walk out of here covering my junk."

Avery slipped his shirt over his head and handed it over. Bruno knew why the beta had volunteered. He wanted to show off his body. He cupped the shirt in front of him and stepped outside. A few people were on the streets, but thankfully none had noticed him yet.

"Why don't you wait here while I go get my Jeep?" Avery asked. "That'll be better than you strutting down the street with your ass hanging out."

"So, what happened?" Rider asked when Avery took off.

"Don't know." Bruno's head no longer hurt. The shift had done the trick. "But I'm gonna find out who did this to me and return the favor."

Bruno took a step back, moving into the doorway of the shop when a woman across the street stopped to eye him. She gave him a flirtatious smile before moving on.

Rider elbowed him. "I think she digs you."

"Only because I'm naked." He looked down the street. What was taking Avery so long?

A moment later, Avery's red Jeep came toward them. Bruno needed to get to his truck. He had a go-bag behind the driver's seat, and after he dressed, he was gonna find out who had coldcocked him.
