Chapter Nine

Layla tried to calm down Eugene who was crying uncontrollably on the ground next to Louise’s head. I could tell by the way he howled that he loved her deeply. It was unbearable to watch. Layla was knelt beside him with her hand on his back, but she wouldn’t look in the direction of Louise’s head. Bryan was consoling Sabrina who was hyperventilating in a corner. I was still in shock. I didn’t want to move, and my body was shaking. I didn’t understand why this was happening to us. We had to figure out a way to get out of here fast before we were all dead. I walked towards the door we first entered through. I turned the knob, and it was locked. We were trapped here.

“Shit.” I said out loud. I was hoping nobody heard me. I didn’t want everyone to start freaking out again.

“What’s wrong?” Layla looked up at me. She always did have good hearing.

“The door is locked.” I cried to her.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Layla jumped up and ran to the door. She turned the knob as if she didn’t believe me and had to see for herself. She started to cry as she banged on the door. “Let us out of here!” she shouted. Nobody responded of course. We were exactly where they wanted us.

“How are we supposed to get out of here?” Sabrina started to hyperventilate again after Bryan just got her to calm down.

“We’ll figure a way out.” Bryan assured her. “We’ll be out of here soon I promise.”

Sabrina started crying uncontrollably and Bryan smothered her head into his chest as he rubbed on her back. “It’s going to be okay baby. We are going to be okay.”

He must have loved her deeply. He was gentle with her. Was it just a reaction of him being scared as well or was he like this all the time? I’ve read somewhere that men seem to be more affectionate when they are scared. He didn’t seem like an asshole.

Eugene on the other hand, seemed like the dog type of guy. Now that his girlfriend was dead, he seemed to act like he loved her and nobody else came above her. He was a jerk to her in the elevator. Maybe it’s true what they say, you don’t know what you have until it is gone. Even though it was his fault Louise was killed.

“We have no choice but to keep going.” Layla said.

“Why can’t we just stay here?” I didn’t like the idea of venturing off. I’m sure someone would have noticed they were missing by now and would have called the police.

“Why? So that guy can come back and kill us off one by one?” Layla complained.

I looked at Eugene who was still on the ground crying. I then looked at Bryan and Sabrina. Bryan was still holding her tightly. I hated to admit it, but Layla was right. We have already been attacked twice and no telling if the guy was going to return to finish us all off.
