Bolan looked at Bonnie and pointed at a door.
"Frenchi?" he whispered.
She nodded.
Lug slipped up alongside Bolan. "Something's wrong with this/' he muttered. "How the hell did we get in the middle of the fort and see no soldiers?"
Bolan shook his head.
Lug persisted. "That Frenches bedroom?" he asked, nodding toward the door to their left. "Uh-uh. Somethin' screwy. Too goddamned easy."
Bolan turned to Bonnie. He thought for a moment, then said, "Turn out their lights."
She pressed the button on the transmitter, igniting the thermal plastique on the 220-volt line leading into the house. After half a minute the house went dark. For a second. The emergency lights, battery powered, came on immediately. What was worse, the failure of electric power in the house set off the alarm system.
Hardmen charged out of the bedroom that was their dormitory. Presuming the threat came from the first floor, they ran for the stairs, carrying heavy weapons. Lug Lugano had no hesitancy about firing on them, and his H&K chopped them down as they burst through the door.
Bonnie had set her Beretta to fire 3-round burstsâshe had learned the nuances of the weapon during the afternoon and was much better equipped, mentally, to use it than she had been when she used the Walther to kill Fel-ucci. She held her fire. Lugano had cut down the first few men out of the bedroom.
