THIRTEEN FAVORITE BOTTLES OF WINE I HAVE DRUNK (SOME AT DAVOS)
1982 Burgundy Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine des Chateau, called “Red Velvet.” It was Napoleon’s favorite wine.
1961 Bordeaux Petrus. I had this at a party in Palm Beach, and they guzzled many bottles of the expensive stuff, not even appreciating its finer qualities.
1994 Meursault-Genevrieres. What a beautiful white, fresh, floral, delicious wine.
2002 Napa Silver Oak Cab. This is a big Cab from a great region that scores high points on every scale.
1976 Penfolds Grange Hermitage. Well, one Aussie just to mix things up and for that bouquet.
1989 Gewurztraminer SGN Hugel. These wines are distinctive and unique. A regional call. Good with charcuterie.
1997 Napa Screaming Eagle Cab. Get your hands on this coveted item any way you can!
1947 Bordeaux Chateau Cheval Blanc. A nice summer wine, good with almost any seafood. I prefer mussels and garlic.
1995 Greenock Creek Shiraz. Not my favorite grape, but this one is most drinkable. At least it is NOT Merlot (as in the movie Sideways)!
2006 Pomerol Vieux Chateau Certan. Earthy terrain. The gravel in the soil must do it.
1986 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. An effete wine if ever there was one. The name says $$$.
2005 Russian River Hook & Ladder Pinot Noir. Limited production and so good to drink you won’t be able to keep it in stock. My everyday wine.
1973 Napa Stag’s Leap Cab. The best of California. I used to serve this at my holiday party in the UN just to piss off the French. I told them it was French – then I told them the truth and they were caught.
