Chapter Seventeen

Maddox

Do you know how hard it is not to run up to your girl, the girl you’re in love with and not pick her up and spin her around because you just won your fight and made bank? It fucking sucks big hairy donkey balls. That’s all I want to do as I join Samantha, Axel, and Merick. I’m stoked that Merick talked her into coming, but I doubt it took much convincing on Merick’s part. Hiding our relationship or whatever you want to call it is getting harder. I told Samantha that I would wait until she’s ready, and I will, but it’s getting frustrating and I don’t like lying to my best friend.

I always need to smoke after a fight, it helps ease the tension I have built up from being in the circle. Just as I’m picking up the blunt and lighter I left with my stuff beside Samantha, I hear someone call out Axel. Snapping my head in the direction, I see Merick’s ex douchebag, Matt.

“Oh.” Samantha covers her mouth with her hand, but her laughter isn’t hidden. “This is about to get really good.”

I stick my bottom lip out, pouting. “Hey, my fight wasn’t good enough?” Taking a chance, I slap her on her ass.

“It was great.” She pats my chest not taking her eyes off the circle. Who would have thought Samantha would be so into watching people fight? Although, the night of Merick’s birthday when we went to Havana Hills, Samantha was ready to throw hands with those entitled bitches. She’s growing into a woman she needs to be proud of, I know I’m so fucking proud of her for standing up for herself now and not letting people treat her like shit anymore. I’m proud of how far she has come and how well she’s doing even though I know she needs to face it one day at a time.

“Make it fast.” I yell as Axel enters the circle. Leaning close to Samantha’s ear, I whisper, “What time do you have to be home?”

I’ve been paying more attention to Samantha rather than what was happening in the circle until I hear Axel. “Maddox, get Rebel out of this fucking circle.” Ah, fuck! I have never heard him sound so pissed. He’s about to fuck her ex up and there won’t be any stopping him until someone pulls him off. I quickly stride to Merick, grab her arm, and pull her back to our spot.

Samantha waits until the fight has started and Merick’s focused on Axel before she leans toward me. “I have to be home by one.” Finally, lighting up the blunt, I take a long hit and slowly blow out the smoke.

Nodding, I reply, “We can hang at my place, then I’ll take you home.”

“Okay.” Her smile makes my heart stop. I swear she takes my breath away every time I look at her.

“You’re so beautiful, Pidge.” She stares into my eyes and I see it. She wants to kiss me as much as I want to kiss her, but we can’t.
