“I believe we may have a hit,” the caller spoke into the phone.

“Oh, Nicco’s back?”

“I’m not sure. I think I saw movement. However, there aren’t any new vehicles in the area. I don’t like staying put for too long. I don’t want anyone getting suspicious.”

“Too late for that, but as you know, I already took care of it with our local. Monitor closely.”

“I’m going to go and check around back. You would think Nicco would have a better setup than this. His brother and cousins’ places are built like Fort Knox.”

“Not really. Only that Damn Piero and his family. Michael’s place is huge but not built like you’re trying to get into Buckingham palace or something.”

“Well, Nicco is not the smartest one of the bunch.”

“True. That works in our favor.”

“I’ll call you back if I have something.”

“Make sure that you do, Bruno. Nicco is beginning to be a thorn in my side. It shouldn’t be taking this long to locate where he is.”

“Got it, boss,” he said and disconnected the call. Your obsession with Nicco is going to land you in a shitload of trouble if you aren’t careful, boss. Bruno made to get out of the car, stopped short, and did a double-take. Two huge, blondish, overdressed guys were walking up to Nicco’s house. Who the fuck were these guys, and where the hell did they come from? There weren’t any other cars around. He’d have seen or heard something. Whoever they were, they didn’t look too happy. Bruno slank down in his seat a little. He needed to see exactly what was going on. Bruno watched intently as the two men walked confidently up the walkway and to the front door, and from what Bruno could tell, one of them rang the bell as the taller one seemed to be stabbing at something. Bruno could tell by the hand motion. He quickly grabbed the binoculars next to him, but before he could bring them up to his eyes, a car whipped down the street, stopping in front of Nicco’s house. “What the hell is this?” Whatever was getting ready to go down couldn’t be good. Not from the angry stare of this guy. Yes, he turned his gaze sharply toward Bruno and scowled at him. As if he knew Bruno had been there. His piercing eyes were cold and deadly. Bruno had seen this in men’s eyes plenty of times, and it was never a good thing. He’d also seen the look in his own gaze.

“I think you should leave now, Bruno Calliverio.

Hmm. By the accent and broken English, this guy was Russian, Slovakian maybe. Not one to be intimidated. Bruno glared back.

“Do I know you?”

“No, and you don’t want to. Trust me. Go back and describe me to Georgio Perini. He will tell you all you need to know. Goodbye, Mr. Calliverio.”

Bruno was set to retort when he noticed the other two men walking back toward the car parked across from him. He tested the waters anyway.

“Are they with you?” Bruno asked.
