âLet me help,â Vi said as she stacked a case of beer onto the box already on the dolly.
âThanks,â Cory said, putting another box on top of that one.
âIâd be happy to make deliveries with you when Iâm not in the office,â Vi said.
âYou would?â
âYes! Cory, I never wanted your store to fail. Itâs just that I had researched the area and knew there was potential there. Even after I met you, as much as I wouldâve liked to, I couldnât back away. Iâve never backed off from anything.â
Cory set the last box on top of the others and looked at Vi. âYou know what that tells me?â
Vi shrugged.
âOur brains got in the way of our hearts. I couldâve just as easily gone about my business, but I was determined to make you talk to me. You couldâve backed away and gone to another area, but you didnât.â
âOur hearts werenât having it,â Vi said with a smile.
âThatâs right.â Cory grinned and shook her head. Her heart was happy in this moment and she knew it was because she was with Vi.
She wheeled the dolly inside the restaurant and Vi helped her unload it.
âI thought we heard someone out here,â Krista said, walking in with a picnic basket. âThis basket is full of sandwiches and other treats perfect for the beach.â
Cory turned around and her eyes widened. âYou did this yourself?â
âOur chef is off because we didnât have a group this week,â Krista replied.
âWe enjoyed preparing this for you, together,â Melanie said. âI put a surprise in there for yâall. One of our favorites is pimento cheese.â
Vi gasped. âMy mom used to make pimento cheese for me when I was a little girl.â
Cory saw Krista and Melanie exchange a look. âWell, this is made with a little Lovers Landing magic, so be sure and have a taste,â Melanie said.
âWeâre so happy to see you two together. I knew youâd figure out a way to work together,â Krista said.
Cory looked at Vi and chuckled. âIâm glad you did because it took us a while.â
âNone of that matters now,â Melanie said.
âWe want you to go down to the private beach by the first cabin instead of the big beach right here,â Krista said.
âThereâs no one here but us, but youâll have more fun there.â
âOkay,â Cory replied. âThank you.â
âOh, and I unlocked the cabin if you need to go inside for anything,â Melanie said.
Cory saw Melanie grin at Krista and wink. When she glanced at Vi she could see her cheeks were pinkening just like her own.
âThis is so nice of you both. Thank you,â Vi said gratefully.
âYouâre more than welcome. Have a wonderful time.â
Cory grabbed the picnic basket and Vi took the cooler with the drinks.
It didnât take them long to set up their towels and hit the water. They swam and splashed each other as they enjoyed being together.
A little later they plopped down on their towels.
âAre you cold?â Cory asked.
âNope,â Vi replied, pulling another towel around her shoulders. âIâm ready to try this pimento cheese.
