THE DUMBEST DEFENDANT IN THE WORLD (AGAIN)
Another piece of evidence in the case was the pile of Halbach's bone fragments. Nearly all of her bones were found very close to Avery's trailer and garage, in the burn pit. However, and very importantly, two human bone fragments were found far, far away in the quarry.
According to Ken Kratz, Avery decided to incinerate Halbach's body right outside his trailer and garage, and in doing so overlooked two important things. First, this huge fire would be easily seen by outsiders. And second, when the bone fragments were eventually discovered, their physical location—right next to Avery's home and garage—would mean only one thing: Avery did it.
What is more likely? That Avery is the dumbest defendant in the world and incinerated the corpse in plain view of others—leaving the evidence right next to his own house and garage, no less—and then took only two small bone fragments and transported them far away to the quarry for no apparent reason? Or is it more likely that the real murderer incinerated the body at the quarry, transported the remains to the burn pit right outside Avery's trailer, and accidentally left two small bone fragments behind?
Of course, once again, the frame job is more likely. But if you're confused by the prosecutor's argument, and can't decide whether Avery is an idiot or a genius or both, let's take a closer look at some of the other evidence and arguments.
