We were visiting Maeve and Ted at their home in Pacific Palisades, after they moved from New York because of the Sony acquisition, when Maeve announced that she was pregnant. Surprisingly, James looked at me keenly and right in front of his mom, his sister, and his brother-in-law, said, “What would you want to have if you were pregnant, honey, a boy or a girl?”

I didn’t know how to answer that question. Later, Ted, Maeve, James, his mom, and I went to the Ivy on Robertson to celebrate the news of the baby and after that we all visited the set of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, producer-director Francis Ford Coppola’s movie starring Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves.

Ted, one of the head honchos at the studios, gave us a private tour of the set and Sony Pictures’ substantial offices.

Somehow, on the drive back to Pacific Palisades, the talk turned to Rob Reiner’s new acquisition, a script called A Few Good Men, by a brilliant up-and-coming young writer from New York.

Oh boy, I know him, I thought. Of course, I acted super-nonchalant; I mean, I didn’t want James or his family knowing about my relationship with Sorkin.

Apparently, Ted was excited that his studio was involved in the distribution of the movie, and he and James were frantically discussing which actor they thought should play the part of the young navy lawyer character. Ted said Rob Reiner was thinking Tom Cruise.

After James and I flew back to New York, we got invited to a private screening of The Doors, Oliver Stone’s movie starring Val Kilmer.

Do you know what’s really awesome about private movie screenings? You can watch the movie while sitting in a leather-upholstered lounger, exactly like the ones on a Falcon jet, and you can call your girlfriend in L.A. from your own phone that is attached to the lounger.

I apologized profusely to Teresa for not seeing her while I was in L.A. and told her James had asked me to marry him.

“Are you going to tell him that you’re a call girl?” she asked.

“I don’t know; it’s very confusing,” I said, “but I wish you could see this private movie theater.” I couldn’t even think of telling James the truth.

We were having such a good time together. I couldn’t contemplate spoiling it with such boring details of exactly how I got my money.
