The last few days have flown by. It feels like Iâve been living in a real-life Christmas movie. Not a Hallmark movie, eitherâlike Netflix because of all the sex. During the day, if Iâm not with Cole Iâm either baking or exploring. Yesterday, Cole took me fishing in his continued attempt to get me to enjoy his favorite hobby despite the bitter cold. I ended up not catching any fish, which sucked until we got back to his cabin and he proceeded to eat me out until I forgot what a fish even looked like. I rewarded him with hot chocolate.
At night, I tell him stories about my childhood, my life on the road with public speaking, and where Iâd like to be in the next few years. In turn, he shares things about his life and what heâs been through. Iâve also discovered, by accident, thatâs what happens when you leave your wallet lying in your own house, that heâs ten years older than me. When I mentioned my high school reunion coming up, he rolled his eyes and laughed saying I was still young.
He lets me win at board games and in return I let him be a guinea pig for new baking ideas. No matter what, good or bad, he swallows at least one bite. Except the macaroons. He spit it out into a napkin when he thought I wasnât looking. He sits through Sleepless in Seattle and I pretend I hate The Godfather. I read one of his mystery books but he refuses a romance novelâclaiming heâd rather live a romance than read one. I rolled my eyes and threw a paperback at him.
Since Cole hasnât worked the last few days, itâs been great, and itâs been good to explore areas that I hadnât before. Being with someone has given me better confidence in hiking in the snow and while I was willing and prepared to do it all on my own itâs nice to have him by my side. Weâve got one more night before Christmas Eve and while Iâm hoping heâll suggest that we spend it together, I donât want to impose and just assume that we will.
Coleâs parents were spending the holiday in Hawaii. Apparently, their dream is Mele Kalikimaka with Bing Crosby, and since Cole is here, they decided to do it. He mentioned again that he would be leaving at New Yearâs and I felt the tightening in my chest that I get when I think about the after. I donât want to scare him off, but we both live in Texasâin cities not far from one anotherâit isnât crazy to think we might continue to see each other. I donât ask, though. I donât want to break this fragile thing Iâm holding on to.
Cole had some last-minute work to do today but tonight weâll spend the evening together and thatâs what Iâm currently getting ready for. Not knowing if weâll be spending Christmas eve together, I want to look nice tonight.
