WHEN THEY finally returned to their hotel room, it was nearly five and they were both tired.

Lucien summed it up, saying, “I loved everything we did today, cher, but walking—strike that—shuffling through room after room of a museum is more exhausting than running a race.”

“How would you know that, Cien? As far as I know, you’ve never run a race.”

“Maybe not, but I have a vivid imagination.”

“I hope you’ve worked up an appetite,” Clint said.

“Why?”

“Because we have a special dinner reservation this evening.”

“Special?”

“Wait and see.”

“Okay, then, when?”

“The reservation isn’t until eight, but it’s almost an hour’s drive from the hotel.”

“Really?”

“Yes, really. Meanwhile, however shall we pass the time?”

“Silly question, cher, silly question.”
