His broad back was to me and he turned, embarrassed and red-faced. “Oh Clara, good morning! I thought you were in class by now. We’re late, aren’t we?” Felt sick to my stomach over everything. Can Jean Patterson and her friends hate me so much that they put words like these between the pages of my dictionary?
