Christmas in a Growing Town

The year 1930 was a pivotal time for the growth of Las Vegas as a city. The year before, in 1929, Las Vegas High School opened and the Las Vegas Review-Journal became a daily newspaper. In 1931 the Nevada Legislature repealed its gambling ban, and the Pair-O-Dice Club opened on Highway 91—known later as the famous Las Vegas Strip.

In the midst of these major changes, as the following story demonstrates, one tradition remained constant: Santa Claus made his annual visit to all the children of Las Vegas.
