Vallore Manor: Villa Monte, Caron

Josh stood behind the other Elites as Master Vallore interrogated vampire hunters. They were in the cellar and they chained the hunters to the walls of the primitive chamber. The Master raged ever since his wife disappeared, making life miserable for those around him.

Being around him was like following a rabid dog, as the Master lashed out at his Elites, even his best friend, Darien.

Master Vallore captured a hunter by his brown hair, shouting at him. “Where is Mistress Vallore!” They chained the hunter to the wall, his wrists and ankles restrained. They bloodied him up during his earlier capture, but he still fought.

“I don’t know!” The hunter’s words were a pained cry.

Master Vallore cut off the hunter’s ear. The hunter screamed in agony, blood dripping toward his breast and soiling the collar of his flannel shirt. Josh focused on the blood and licked his lips.

“Tell me!” the Master screamed.

“I can’t!”

Master Vallore sliced the man’s throat and blood sprayed on his pristine black suit. After licking the blood off his fingers, Master Vallore walked to another hunter. He placed his palms on either side of the wall near the captive’s head as he leaned close. The hunter cowered, his teeth chattering loud enough for Josh to hear as the hunter sought to ward off the frigid stare of the Master Vampire.

“Where is Mistress Vallore?” The Master’s tone relaxed, his chest rising and falling slower than before. Only two hunters remained. The hope of locating an answer dwindled.

“I don’t know—” Swallowing hard, the hunter focused on the blade in the Master’s fist, the polished metal sparkling under the light overhead. “—but—” Trying to catch his breath, the hunter wheezed. “I may know—” He choked out his words. “—something that could help you.”

“Oh?” A malevolent smile filled the Master’s lips, giving the hunter a better view of his fangs. “What is it?”

The man licked his lips. “A hospital in Pargon does experiments on—” His bottom lip quivered as he squeezed out the last word. “—vampires.”

“Experiments?” Master Vallore stepped back and glanced at Darien. “What experiments?”

“I’m not sure.” Letting out a gasp of relief when the Master wasn’t close to him, the hunter’s nervous gaze ticked to Darien. “They pay us to bring vampires. They only take Elites.”

“Where?” Master Vallore handed his dagger to Darien before crossing his arms.

The hunter tugged at the shackles binding his hands. “If I tell you, will you release me?”

“Of course.” An evil chuckle escaped Master Vallore’s lips, a calm smile washing over him. “Tell me where it is.”

“Somewhere near Jenson—but it’s all I know.”

“It’s all you know?” Master Vallore snatched the blade from Darien, taking a few careful steps toward the hunter. “Are you certain?”

“Ya-ya-yes, Master Vallore.” The hunter’s nose bled, his nostrils messed up from a punch to the nose. Darien broke it, the hunter’s tone throaty.

“Come now.” The Master laughed as he leaned the knife on the hunter’s cheek. “There must be more you can tell me.”

“There is nothing.” The hunter winced when the tip pierced his skin.
