Chapter Seventeen
âI bought a house.â
âWhat? Are you kidding me?â Mickyâs voice conveyed to Chris every bit of the surprise that he was feeling. âWhen?â
âI closed on it two days ago.â
Chris was finding it a little hard to believe too. The opportunity had presented itself, and he had jumped on it. The right price, great neighborhood, and everything he was looking for. The agent he was working with came highly recommended by his teammates, and everything had just fallen into place like it was meant to be.
He told Micky, âItâs pretty cool. Four bedrooms, three and a half baths, and a pool.â
âA pool? Really?â
âYeah, man. It actually gets hot here in the summer. People go swimming. Itâs a thing.â
Micky was having a hard time imagining Chris being a homeowner. âThis is crazy. When did you start house hunting? And, no offense, but why?â Before Chris could answer, Micky added, âOh, shit, is this because of Paige? Are you going to tell me you bought a house for her?â Chris was quiet for a moment, and Micky said, âHoly shit, you did. I canât fucking believe it. Becks, did you have her pick it out? Or is this something else she doesnât know about? Like the fact that youâre planning on marrying her?â
âHey, a house is an excellent investment. Maybe Iâm just starting to act like a grown-up, you asshole.â There wasnât any real heat behind his words.
âDamn.â Chris could hear Micky laughing under his breath. âIâm going to have to meet this woman whoâs turning you into a responsible adult without even realizing it. Are you still planning on bringing her for Christmas?â
âYes, definitely. I canât wait for you to meet her. Sheâs smart and kind. And gorgeous. Did I mention gorgeous?â
Micky chuckled, saying, âYou might have mentioned that detail. Once or twice. So, when are you going to tell her about this house?â
âIâm going to call her after I talk with you. Thereâs no furniture, and the stuff from my apartment would fill like a room and a half, so Iâm not entirely sure how Iâm going to handle any of this.â
Micky thought for a moment and said, âYou could hire someone to furnish it. Like an interior designer or something like that. However that works. Although I wouldnât have the first idea how to go about finding one.â He laughed out loud. âItâs not like I have any interest in become a responsible adult any time soon. Youâre on your own with that shit.â
Chris grinned. âThatâs a good idea. Iâll ask around and see what I can come up with. And how irresponsible are you being, anyway? Still just sowing your wild oats amongst the puck bunnies, or are you seeing someone?â
âShit, Becks, just because youâre settling down with one woman doesnât mean anyone else needs to.â Micky was grinning too. âWild oats exist to be sown. That is the way of nature. But, to answer your question, there isnât anyone in particular. That doesnât mean Iâm lonely, though, if you know what I mean.
