She also found several texts from Michelle. The first read: I trust you will sleep well even on that ridiculous couch.

Eden snorted. How on earth would Michelle know what Aggie’s couch was like? Had she asked O’Brian to describe it for her? She was control freak-y enough to.

The next read: I require a status update. Health okay? Ribs? Bruising?

And another: I’m aware we’re having differences of opinion on various matters but I’d like to know you’re recovering well.

“Differences of opinion?” That was one way to describe it.

It’s not for me, said the next text. Your doctor is asking for updates.

Wait, wouldn’t Michelle have mentioned that first if the doctor needed information? And wouldn’t Dr. Michelson have contacted Eden directly? She had her cell number.

Fine, said the last message. Ignore me if you wish.

Eden could hear her petulance. Michelle being petulant was pretty funny, given how uptight and cool she acted at all other times. Acting being the operative word. Eden had seen many glimpses under the mask by now and knew there was a lot more going on than cool indifference.

Her final text was the best one. It sounded as if Michelle actually cared.
