Alejandro grabbed the book from Natalia. “Whatcha reading?”

Natalia screamed as she tried to take it back, “Give that back!”

Alejandro danced around, being silly until he saw Luisa’s handwriting and his name. He read out loud, “I broke up with Alejandro today.” He paused, then questioned, “This is Luisa’s journal?”

“Yes, now give it back,” Natalia said as she jumped and snatched it away from him. “She gave it to me to read, not you.”

“So, you are at the part where she dumped me?” Alejandro sulked.

“Yeah, but come on Alejandro. You’ve got to get over Luisa,” Natalia said, putting her arm around him for comfort.

Alejandro still hadn’t recovered over the heartbreak. When he gave Luisa back her box of stuff, it was his first step. Alejandro sat next to her at the table and chatted for about a half an hour when Natalia glanced up and saw CJ walking toward Rich’s.

Her breath caught in her throat, and she became a ball of nerves. She excused herself, “Uh, I... um... really need to go now.”

Frazzled, Natalia stood and gathered up her stuff just as CJ stepped to the patio of Rich’s and confronted her. “Going somewhere, Henry?”

She stuttered, “Just forgot about some... errands I have to run.”

“Not so tough and sassy when out in the open.” CJ scraped her nail over her bottom lip, giving Natalia a reason to look at her mouth.

It worked. Natalia trembled as her voice cracked, “Look, I gotta go.”

“We have unfinished business, you and me.” CJ smirked.

Amused at the confrontation between the girls, Alejandro watched Natalia become flustered around Luisa’s new girlfriend. He sat there, trying not to snicker at the situation.

Natalia backed up to leave. “Yeah, um... about that.”

“I still don’t know why Luisa is so in love with you.”

No longer laughing, Alejandro jumped up and yelled, “Luisa’s in love with you?”

Natalia did not know what to say, but Luisa helped, as she walked up to the situation, and said, “Yes, Luisa is in love with Natalia. I’m sorry, Alejandro. I kind of always have been.”

Stunned, Alejandro questioned everyone, “How? When?”

Natalia smirked at CJ with victory in her eyes when Luisa said she was in love with her. As in the present tense. The two hadn’t backed down from their intense glares at each other.

Luisa continued, “I’ll rephrase that. I was in love with Natalia when I thought I liked girls and suppressed those feelings because as much as I tried to give Natalia hints about it, she ignored me. When we broke up, I didn't tell you about the Natalia thing.”

“So, when we were together, you were thinking—” Alejandro processed his thoughts aloud.

“Yeah, thinking about Natalia,” Luisa said with regret in her heart.

With all that was happening between the three girls, Alejandro felt frustrated, sad, and angry. He grabbed his water and walked away from the group, leaving Natalia, Luisa, and CJ face to face with each other.

A world of confusion fell upon Luisa, seeing the girl she loved and the girl she should love. It was like being forced to decide between the two of them.
